To Do List – Spring is Here! (According to a Rodent)

As we claw ourselves out of the tepid clutches of OldMan Winter, quite a few things are going on around the Hill this weekend to keep ourselves entertained.

We kick off with tonight, March 3rd, where Margaret Hollister will discuss her book Inheriting China, at the Southeast Library, 6:30PM. Margaret is a 94 year-old Hill resident who grew up in China, the daughter of missionaries.

Of course, the Atlas continues to present Intersections, a New American Art Festival. Way too much is happening there to give all the details, but check out their website for full info. I will quickly note that on Saturday, March 5th, Family Day is from 1 to 6PM, with quite a few kid-friendly events. Bring your budding Calder to make mobiles!

Also on March 5th, Join Boy Scout Troop 500 for their Annual Pancake Feast! They’’ll have chocolate chip, blueberry and plain pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and coffee for just $10 adults, $5 kids under 12. Honestly, help these guys out. I’m still scarred by memories of having to push the wretched Boy Scout popcorn in my formative years. This is a lot better. 8am – 12pm at Capitol Hill Presbyterian (4th and Independence SE).

The Electro- Koustic Band performs at The B Spot, 1123 Pennsylvania Avenue SE from 7PM to 10PM. This event is free and open to the public.

Lady’s Arm Wrestling – Honestly, do I have to say more? Ok, fine, I will. Held at 5 pm at American Legion Post 8 at the corner of 3rd and D ST SE, you’re $5 entrance fee will go towards the Fisher House Foundation, which supports the families of service-members as they recuperate from injuries. Like you know, from that war going on.

River Park Nursery School will be hosting their Sock Hop Fundraiser at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation on the 200 block of East Capitol. Go online now ($30) to reserve a ticket. In addition to a pretty decent silent auction, attendees will be entertained by the Singing Lizard, which I was somewhat disappointed to learn was a kid themed entertainer, and not a reptilian singer.

And, as always, if I’ve left something off, please feel free to share it with everyone in the comments.
