Three New Reasons to Come to H Street

At long last, three new restaurants — which have all been teasing us with promises of opening “soon” — are ready to open their doors on H Street this week.  Toki Underground, Queen Vic, and Khan’s Bar & Grill will be adding  new tastes to an already eclectic mix of spots along the corridor.

First up, Khan’s Bar & Grill officially opened on Monday at 1125 H Street NE, serving made to order stir fry and a selection of craft beers on tap.  The walls are covered in flat-screen TVs (including one particularly huge one that is an impressive 110″) which are sure to be tuned to soccer games on any given day; the GM and Assistant GM are both huge soccer fans and the bar is a DC United Bar Partner.  They will also be featuring white whiskey and their own rye, aged in-house.  I haven’t figured out yet how to be part of that tasting but you can bet I’ll find a way to be there.  For more, Frozen Tropics has pictures and Urban Daddy profiled the new restaurant this week.

Next, Toki Underground will have its official opening this Friday night.  This tiny gem can be found above The Pug at 1234 H Street NE, and will serve Taiwanese ramen, dumplings, and Asian-themed cocktails.  I had the chance to try it out last week during a soft opening and can say that the steamed dumplings and ramen are a fantastic addition to the scene. Toki is small but well worth the wait.

Finally, the much anticipated Queen Vic will be opening at 1206 H Street NE as the latest British gastropub to hit the city.  I love what they did with the inside when I poked my head in the other day for a quick tour.  With two floors, a patio and second floor deck, this will be a great spot for a beer no matter what the weather outside.  Their official opening date has not yet been announced but the soft opening with a limited menu starts tonight.  As of last weekend, you could swing in for drinks during normal business hours so it seems like they are pretty much open, just slowly rolling out the menu while they finish the final touches on things.  For pictures, check out Frozen Tropics or this profile on Thrillist.
