To Do List

While I spend the entirety of my weekend looking forward to Monday—the day that pitchers and catchers with the Nationals report to spring training in Viera—why don’t the rest of you check out what is happening on the Hill.

Theater of the First Amendment: 24, 7, 365 opens Thursday, February 10th at the Atlas Performing Arts Center and asks the question: what would the world look like if people were happy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? What’s the answer, you ask? You’ll have to find out at the theater!

While you are at the Atlas, check out the Washington Savoyards staged concert reading of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers.  This limited-engagement performance opens Friday, February 11 and runs through Sunday, February 13.

I hear the weather will be almost spring-like this weekend, so if you plan to take in some fresh air why not head to Eastern Market (with everyone else who will surely descend on the market at this first sign of warmer weather)? On Saturday, February 12 head to the North Hall for the Food Lovers’ Double Feature—featuring the movies Eat Pray Love at 12 pm and Chocolat at 2:30 pm. A receipt from a vendor at the market or a five dollar donation per person will get you in the door. Bring a special someone and a picnic lunch. I suggest take-out from some of my favorite places that are Market adjacent, like Prego and Marvelous Market!

Head back to the Market on Sunday, February 13 where you can listen to local musicians perform and write a love note for everyone to see. Given that Monday is Valentine’s Day, I suspect PDA outside of those posted on the wall won’t be frowned upon, but keep it clean you crazy people in love! Kids will be present, what with all the crafts and other free, family-friendly activities planned.

Speaking of family-friendly, join the folks at Tyler Elementary on Saturday, February 12 from 3-6 pm for an afternoon of “dancing, entertainment, face painting, good food and better company” at Kiddie Cabaret. Pre-order tickets online.

And if all that the Hill offers above isn’t enough, be sure to check out all of the going’s on at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop—from Taffety Punk Theater Company’s Owl Moon, which runs through Saturday, February 26 to the All-Media Juried Show Opening with Juror Janis Goodman on Sunday, February 13 at 5pm. The free show continues through March 4.
