The To Do List

Image by Crazy Bananas on FlickrAmerica’s favorite groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, didn’t see his shadow which means spring will be early. Woo-hoo! I’m sure my friends in the Midwest and upper Northeast want to punch that little guy in the nose, but I’d like to give him a high five. Thank goodness we don’t rely on when our weekends are going to happen on some rodent. I myself am finding myself in that winter rut where it’s hard to get excited about stuff. The Holiday’s are long past, Groundhog Day is over, and we’re being teased by warm weather only in a few days to be slapped back into February’s reality. The good news is, Friday is very close and we live on The Hill, which means a few fantastic things are going down to fight those blues.

On Friday night you can head out to the H Street Playhouse to catch their latest play which debuts on Friday night. The No Rules Theatre Company will be performing thier play “Touch” about a man who rebuilds his life after a life changing tragedy. Tickets are $25.00 and show time is at 8:00 p.m. The play will be at the playhouse until February 27.

On Saturday morning after you’ve caffeinated your soul at one of the many Hill coffee shops, you can head down to the Capitol Building to join the DC Preservation League and RTKL for the First Steps to the Capitol Capitol Visitors Center Tour from 9:00 – 10:30am. The tour will be given by the current Architect of the Capitol, Stephen T. Ayers, AIA, LEED(AP) and Senior Vice President at RTKL, Rod Henderer, AIA, LEED(AP). The tour is $15 for Members and $25 for Non-Members.

After you’ve taken in the beauty and history of the very building that gives our neighborhood it’s name, you all have a sudden need to maybe adopt a kitten or a dog. What better way to curl up on a cold winters night than with an adorable cat or dog at your feet. If you have this need Metro Mutts along with Homeward Trails will be hosting a Pet Adoption Event at their H Street store from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Go out and meet a number of cats and dogs who need a good home.

Sunday seems to be quiet which means a good day to recover from all the fun you had over the weekend. Spring is just around the corner, say the rodent, and after spending a few days chasing the winter blues away, you may actually believe it too.
