If you’re a regular reader here (and you better be), you already know that Pound Coffee is opening its second location at 621 Pennsylvania Ave. SE this spring. But Pound has partnered with Wisdom (way down on the end of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE) to let you start enjoying their “comfort food from around the world” starting tonight at the Hill East cocktail den (and frequent THIH watering hole).
That I’m a big cheerleader for Capitol Hill’s businesses is no secret (not just here at The Hill is Home, but I do a lot of work with CHAMPS, the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce) and partnerships like this are one of the many reasons why our neighborhood and its businesses are special. These guys are working together to bring you some things you’ve been saying you wanted. Up until now, Wisdom’s food menu was pretty firmly in the apps and snacks camp, but people have been asking for something a little more substantial. (Because let’s be honest, they’re pouring strong drinks down there.)

Karl Johnson, one of Pound’s owners said of the new partnership, “Wisdom is the perfect spot in DC for great cocktails. It’s an unpretentious and cozy atmosphere with fantastic mixologists and amazing drinks. Add some damn good international eats to that and you get a Hill hangout you’ll never actually have to leave – or want to. We’re super excited to be able to offer Pound’s delicious and unique cuisine at Wisdom!”
From Tuesday through Thursday, starting at 6pm, Wisdom will offer a rotation of Pound favorites including Chipotle Chicken Corn Chowder or Moroccan Lentil soup, along with wraps and paninis that may include a Chicken Teriyaki Wrap or a Portobello Mushroom Wrap. The rotating hot specials on weekends will feature Pound’s most popular daily dishes like Thai and Indian curries, BBQ Chicken Quesadillas with black beans and rice, Chicken and Shrimp Spanish Paella, and Shrimp and Grits with corn pudding.
Tonight, Wisdom will be serving up Pound’s paninis and hummus platters and tomorrow will be chicken tikka masala over basmati rice. You’ll want to think about getting there early for dinner, since quantities are somewhat limited. In the coming weeks, look for Wisdom’s owner and genius mixologist Erik Holzherr to whip up cocktails that will perfectly compliment the rotating food menu.

This is AWESOME news. Kelly and I fell in love with Wisdom and we can’t wait to go back! Now that they are partnering with Pound we can do dinner and drinks. Very, very cool.
