To Do List

The post Holiday/New Years blahs are upon us. If you’re like me, that list of New Years Resolutions is long forgotten as you grab a cookie instead of your running shoes. That pile of clutter you’ve vowed to box up and donate is larger than it’s ever been before. Those resolutions are now mocking you, and to make it all worse, the air is frigid making the side walks an icy obstacle course that have joined evil forces with gravity just waiting to take you down with each step.

Though the weekend seems to be a little quiet, there are still a few things happening to get kick your winter blahs out. On another positive note, it is a three day weekend!

On Friday night you can head out to the at Atlas Theatre, and check out the political satire “The Sound of Palin.”

On Saturday night you can head out to the Argonaut as it officially reopens! Go get your beer on and gorge yourself on sweet potato fries, as I have missed greatly. After your belly is full, you can go and get your groove on at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Eli “Paperboy” Reed and The True Loves will be bringing down the house with their 60’s soul sound. Their debut album “Come and Get It” is on my top 20 list of albums to rock out to. This is the first time I’m going to see them live, and I for one and super excited. I’m positive that show is going to warm me up! Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show is $14.

Sunday looks like a good day to lay low, and make a new resolution list, one that’s maybe more realistic. Like, say drinking more wine.

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and also the National Day of Service. After volunteering at a number of places during the day, you can head over to The Corner Store at 8pm for film screening of the film “My Mother’s Journey.” the film is a documentary tracing one African American woman’s migration from the South to the North, and her work in the civil rights era and beyond. There will be a post show discussion with the filmmakers Sam & Kirsten Hampton. The event is free.

Whatever you choose to do this weekend be warm, be well, and remember you have another 300 and some days to develop a new resolution list.
