Monday Morning Circle Time

I have no wisdom or snark or domestic lamentations this morning. The weekend took a sharp turn on Saturday as news of the tragic events in Tuscon reached us. Maybe we here on the Hill are feeling it more because this is where some of the victims work. Maybe it’s the parent in me lamenting the agonizing loss of the nine-year old just elected to her student council. Whatever. I can’t think about any of it without tearing up so I’ll just stop.

Shaking head and breathing.

So what do ya’ll do this weekend??

Jon: Jon spend the weekend de-Christmas-ing the house, cleaning, running, errands, rearranging furniture, and taking care of every thing else, generally pushed off due to the holidays.

Maria: Got nostalgic with chicken teriyaki; caught up with an old, old friend over the phone; got her drink on with Nichole and Tim at Wisdom; rekindled the flame with basic cable; and deserved a medal for putting together a horribly complex LEGO kit with the firstborn.

Lauren: Part of the weekend was spent trying to teach a new dog, well new tricks. Our 8 month old puppy has mastered a few commands and we really want to show up all the other dogs at Congressional Cemetery. So far, we’ve accomplished over feeding him a bunch of treats. Sunday afternoon was spent trying to motivate to put the Christmas decorations back in the attic and watching the Packers/Eagles game.

Kate: Kate spent the weekend pretty much stuck-like-glue to the Hill. Baby and I spent Friday afternoon at the Library of Congress marveling at the Great Hall and checking out sale goods at Dawn Price Baby (and will return when the markdowns get deeper this Friday). Trying to squeeze Christmas decorations into our very limited closet space was Saturday’s main activity. Sadly, Saturday night I had to turn down a invitation to Hill gallery hop due to a fussy baby, but Sunday’s run around the Capitol gave me the umph to start the week — well, until I was hit up for a donation to the School Within a School auction donation. No, really, I was happy to be asked and help.

Jen: Finally made it to the Atlas room for a nice dinner with my husband. Saturday went to the DC charter school fair and then to dinner at friends’ house. Sunday I finally took down the tree which was so dry it basically disintegrated in my hands.
