I am stepping away from holiday chatter for a moment to bring us back to another love — sandwiches. If there is one thing we have learned here, it’s that people feel very passionately about their sandwiches (or hoagies, or subs, or heroes, or whatever you want to call them). From Prego, to Mangialardo and Sons, to Taylor Gourmet, we have quite the range of offerings. For the sake of narrowing the wide field of options (and opinions), I’ll narrow this one down a tad: where on the Hill do you go for your favorite Italian cold cut sandwich? This is by far a complete list so please add more options in the comments!

Litteri !!!
Congressional Liquor!
A. Litteris. Done. Hands down. No contest.
All other sandwiches get taken to the corn field for a beat down and burial.
and if you get a soft roll, or mayo?!? please……..
Follow the trail of police cars and emergency vehicles at lunch time to Mangialardo’s. Best sub on the Hill
A Litteri for sure!
We didn’t forget Litteri’s on the poll… (it’s my favorite as well) but it falls just outside of what we (very generously) consider the Hill, which is why it’s not on the list. But, yeah… mmmm Litteri’s…
Litteri’s is worth the field trip off the Hill (it’s like crossing the street, really).
Third vote for Litteri’s even though it’s not on the Hill. Love Taylor for lots of things, but not their Italian cold cuts, which have to be the weakest of their offerings.
What’s Gandels?
Mangialardo’s with Litteri’s a close second, even though it isn’t on the Hill. There’s a reason cops have been lining up for the G-Man sandwich since 1968.
I go to Taylor for the roast pork and addictive fried risotto balls, but not the cold cuts.
Fact: The italian at 7th Hill made with bread cooked to order is the best sandwich, italian or otherwise, in the District right now. Better than Taylor Gourmet, who has some fantastic breat. Better than A. Literri’s (whose bread is less good). Better than the G-Man at Mangliardo’s. Better than DuPont Market;s italian. Better than Jetties.
End of debate. Thank you.
I second Taylor’s risotto balls, monkey, and that’s about it. The salads are nice, but they keep getting smaller. And don’t get me started on their wish meat sandwiches. It’s been a long time wince I’ve paid a visit at Taylor… despite the fact that they are just around the corner.
