Monday Morning Circle Time

Whether or not you enjoy the holidays you must admit the sudden quiet that overcomes the city is refreshing. This city, and this neighborhood, which means so many different things to different people around the world, becomes ours for a time. The tourists, members of Congress and their staff are all back where they come from, leaving the natives to enjoy the pleasures of our town in peace and quiet.

The ample parking and open tables at popular local restaurants are also a plus.

How did you spend this holiday weekend?

Robert: Having a wonderful time in Chicago, celebrating Christmas with friends, family, friends of family.

Jon: Enjoyed Christmas in DC with my family.  Christmas with a three-year old proved pretty exhausting, but we managed to temper the gift-frenzy by getting out and enjoying the city (and all the ample parking) as well as kicking back a few ginger Martinis (not the toddler but her parents).

Claudia: The weekend involved lots and lots of food and family time.  My niece and nephew are finally old enough to understand Christmas — at least the presents aspect — so everything revolved around them, which was a lot of fun for all of us.  It’s fun to watch a simple toy drum and train set bring so much joy. Sunday I got to witness a Christmas miracle — the Skins actually won a game — which eased the disappointment of the snow storm missing us, causing all hopes of a snow day to disappear.

Lauren: Had a great Christmas with my boyfriend’s family in Maryland. Sunday led to a delay in our arrival to Cape Cod (thank you, blizzard). Hoping to make it to MA for Christmas part two tomorrow…

Sharee: Enjoyed a quiet holiday in DC — we actually managed to get a seat at 7th Hill for lunch before hitting some museums on the Mall Friday.  Saturday we enjoyed seeing friends and neighbors throughout the day.  Sunday we took advantage of some post-Christmas sales before spending the afternoon playing a new game I got my hubby from Labyrinth.  We capped off the weekend by watching a classic for the first time:  Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Maria: Having the most surreal Christmas of my life, in California.

Jen: Having a lovely Christmas with my family in New Jersey where we are eating at least twice our normal daily calories and watching the snow pile up. Will miss being snowed in in a city where the sidewalks are small and the stores within walking distance. Here’s hoping the dog will eventually go outside…
