Hill Gift Guide: For the Drinker

We all know someone (or are someone) who prefers to drink their calories than eat them. Not only are they a regular at watering holes across the Hill, but their home bar is better stocked than several of those bars. Well, you don’t have to leave the neighborhood to get me them a present this year!

Obviously, your first stop should be Schneider’s. A bottle of wine is always nice, but a bottle of Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth is a great gift for any serious home bar. Schneider’s also has a wide variety of interesting bitters, which make an excellent stocking stuffer!

If you don’t want to help stock your friend’s bar, maybe you want to help them perfect their craft. Wisdom is offering two cocktail classes in January: An Intro to the Martini on January 12 and An Intro to Collins/Rickeys on January 26 you’ll be able to register online soon at The GINtender, owner Erik Holzherr’s blog.

You’re probably already headed to Hill’s Kitchen, which means that you can pick up any number of gifts that Leah keeps in stock for her customers who like to imbibe. My absolute favorite of these is the Sodastream, which allows you to make your own soda water and mixers at home. You can also pick up a set of Takeya Swirl Plastic Tumblers, which are great for parties and outdoor use – or anytime you don’t want to worry about breaking the good stuff. They’re like grown up red keg cups! Hill’s Kitchen also has some nice stocking stuffers in the form of stainless steal wine keys (if you can’t open a bottle with a wine key, you shouldn’t be drinking the wine!), Vin Rouge Red Wine Stain Remover, Built NY Six Pack Tote (aka The Beer Purse) and Tovolo Jewel Pop Molds for making boozy popsicles this summer!

Of course, these friends would also probably appreciate a Hangover Kit: an easy trio of gifts that you can get at Harris Teeter – Goody’s powders, Milk Thistle, and Alka-Seltzer!

Nice to see the beer purse (burse?) making its debut in a post.

  2. The Burse is a great Christmas gift – particularly if it comes filled!
