Ward 6 Election Results

image uploaded by Madame Meow on Flickr

The election results are in with many expected wins and a few surprises in the Ward 6 races, particularly in the ANC races where a few long-time incumbents have been unseated.  Roughly 30% of registered voters in Ward 6 turned out for the general election — about the same turnout as seen in the 2006 midterm election.  In comparison, our Ward saw a 50.5% turnout in the 2008 election.  While our Ward did not have the highest percentage of voter turnout (Ward 3 wins there), we were not far behind.

In the Councilmember race, Tommy Wells won with 85% of the vote, beating Republican challenger Jim DeMartino.  For school board, Monica Warren-Jones beat Melissa Rohan by pulling in nearly 67% of the vote.  As for the ANC, the full list is below.  There are a few very close races that could, theoretically, be altered by absentee votes that have yet to be counted: in 6B08 incumbent Neil Glick is leading Laura McSorley by only nine votes; and in 6C01, incumbent Keith Silver is leading Marge Maceda by only three votes.

Congratulations to all of the candidates on their hard-fought campaigns — Ward 6 ANCs saw the most competition of any other set of races in the city.  Our 35 ANC seats had 63 candidates, which is far more than has been seen in years.    I had the opportunity to meet many of the candidates in person at our Meet & Greet on Monday night and there is definitely a lot of energy among both the newcomers and incumbents.   If you do not already know your commissioner, knock on their door or send them an email (provided on our Elections 2010 Page) to find out how they plan to represent you, or to share your thoughts on how the neighborhood can be improved.  You don’t have to be an elected official to be involved!

City-wide and Ward-by-Ward election results, along with vote counts, can be found on the DC Board of Elections website.

These results don’t include absentee counts yet and some of these races are too close to call still.

The Hill Is Home deserves a lot of credit for the high participation rate in the ANC elections. Your excellent coverage spurred an unusually high interest.
Thanks for all the hard work that went into making sure we all knew these candidates and what they stood for.
    Great job, Claudia!

    Congratulations Lisa!

I really hope that you keep showing interest on the elderly.
We cannot forget our elders, especially the elderly in Washington, that after a hard life of work had have to see how many of their children have been lost to the awful 80’s and 90’s.
Time to rest never came to this people, after raising their children, many of them had to raise their grandchildren.
Nowadays we all seem to care about the neighborhood appearance, keep in mind that for many of our elders, is difficult enough to carry bag of groceries, Could you imagine having to keep a yard, paint a house on a limited income and a tired body??
I hope, you, as an ANC come out with ideas of how the community can help them.
    Thanks!
