To Do List

I don’t know about you but I’m particularly grateful the weekend is nigh. After this crazy week, I plan on spending this weekend doing a lot of nothing. But maybe if I can muster the energy to leave the house I might check out some of the fun things happening below…

Thursday: Time is running out to catch one Shakespeare’s rarely produced plays, Henry VIII at the Folger. Why it’s rarely produced I don’t know. Sex, religion, betrayal. It’s a plot that launched several bodice rippers both in print and on premium cable.  See it live in your neighborhood and thank your lucky stars you are not a member of the royal court.

Friday: The Hillys! What other neighborhood throws itself a Hollywood- style awards show? Yours. Lucky! Celebrate the awesomeness that is the Hill Friday night at 8. Walk the red carpet, nosh, mingle and just be your fabulous self. Tickets are still available.

Festive attire is a vague instruction but let me tell you, if you come you’d better bring it. Maria’s wearing sequins.

Or you could take a totally different approach and attend nerdnite at the Red Palace a new mash up of the Red and the Black and Palace of Wonders. An enticing combination of beer, science and music, nerdnite is a place to indulge your love of bacteria and volcanoes and maybe find some friends who share your interests. Let your freak flags fly people.

Saturday: Take the kiddos to CHAW for  Art Days for a performance by The Singing Lizard. I think she’s actually a nice lady named Liz who sings and not an actual slithering gecko. Performance is from 10-11am.

Instead of a performance for children, why not sit back and let them entertain you. The American Youth Chorus holds it’s first concert of the season at the Atlas Performing Arts Center Saturday night at 8pm.

How about the legendary radio play War of the Worlds? You know the story, Orson  Welles produced  a radio version of the HG Wells classic that terrified thousands who thought they were listening to an actual news broadcast. Scena Theatre takes on the original script and brings it to life at the H Street Playhouse.

Sunday: Pie IS the new cupcake.  The New York Times said so, so get ahead of the trend and learn to bake two kinds of pie Sunday afternoon at Hill’s Kitchen.   You will be able to awe and impress your family with your new found pastry skills and isn’t that what the holidays are all about?
