The To Do List

Ah, November!  The air is crisp and chill, but with the slightest hint of a hangover in our area, after the overdose of political, sane, and fearful spirits and  massive amounts of candy hit us all like a two-by-four of awesome.  I am thinking we’re all ready to relax, enjoy the fall, and keep things mellow but still fun, right?

Right?  Right! Onward!

Thursday, November 4th:
It’s been a rough week, but you’ve almost made it.  Why not do something eclectic and stimulating, like going to “The Dinner Party” hosted by INTERSECTIONS at the Atlas Performing Arts Center: a night of performance art and dance, with an unusual feedback session with the audience after the show.  Follow the link and purchase tickets online!  The Atlas is located at 1333 H Street NE.
For something more mellow and intimate, the Corner Store has a reading by Dyana Fumanski, “Rosalie Edge, Hawk of Mercy”, and it’s an open donation.  900 South Carolina Avenue, SE.

Friday, November 5th:
Across the Atlantic, people are remembering, remembering the fifth of November and going through tons of fireworks, celebrating Guy Fawkes Night.  But hey, this is America!  We blow stuff up in summer, so we can be warm while we do it, thankyouverymuch.  Now on to your weekend plan.  If only there were a place not too off the beaten path, with friendly folks, good conversation, and wine and small bites to go to after work or to get away from home!  Well, what do you know?  St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is holding a First Friday Happy Hour, and they promise all this and more!  Stop by!  St. Mark’s is located at 118 3rd Street, SE.

Still have a little life in you?  Why not go to Sessions at SOVA?  Who knew the Hipster Housecleaner liked to spin some classy tracks while you sip on some deliciously creative cocktails?  Friday sessions starts at 9 pm at SOVA, 1359 H Street, NE.

Saturday, November 6th:
Won’t you help John Philip Sousa blow out his candles? (Yes, ladies, he was a Scorpio!) Go to the Congressional Cemetery, 1801 E Street, SE, at 10 am and bring a lawn chair and a blanket, and listen to the Marine Corps Band “play” a rousing tribute to the March King on what would be his 156th.

Feel like being good for a great cause?  Then why not go donate some blood for Children’s Hospital?  Walk yourself on down to the Church of Jesus Christ  of Latter-Day Saints, 522 7th Street, SE, Washington, DC, and do something to really make you proud. I’m sure you’ll get a cookie afterward, too!  If you decide to be generous, they ask that you sign up in advance here.

A little later and not too far from the vampires people who just took your blood, the Capitol Hill Art League is having an all-media art show, and the juror happens to be the awesomeness that is Gene Weingarten.  The event is free, at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street, SE, and the exhibit itself continues through December 8th.

Okay, now that you’ve paid your respects to greatness; given of yourself; and been totally star-struck; prepare for gossip and scandal: Walking Shtick Tours is conducting a scandal tour of Capitol Hill.  No need for reservation, but give the guys a heads-up at reservations@walkingshtick.com.

Sunday, November 7th:
Finally, what better way to end the weekend than with pork, I ask you?  P&C Market, classing up the western end of Lincoln Park, is holding its very own Pig Pic’n– also known as “220 lbs of porcine perfection.”  (I am blinking back tears of joy as I type.)  If you want to attend, you are asked to bring a side and post it on the Facebook event page, which you can access by clicking here.  P&C Market is located at 1023 East Capitol Street, SE.

Whatever you choose to do, have a great weekend!
