Reservation 13 Meeting Tonight

Those of us who live in Hill East can be forgiven if we don’t breathlessly track every tidbit of news coming out regarding Reservation 13, the large expanse of land that encompasses the former DC General facility. Progress lurches along slowly, with the most recent tangible step being the demolition of the former (and non-historic) Pediatrics Building.

However, as even the most optimistic plans anticipate a decade or so time-line for completion of the project, any number of other uses for the area pops up to fill the void. The newhilleast listserve, taking a break from chicken and parking issues, has been ablaze with discussions regarding a new proposal to shift a methadone clinic to the former DC General campus. To be co-located with the homeless shelter apparently.

So, if you’re interested in visiting a coffee shop in Hill East in 2018, or getting treatment for a heroin addiction right now, come out to Payne Elementary tonight at 6:00. Councilmember Wells will be hosting a community meeting to discuss latest updates regarding the site.

Sounds like a great idea to combine drug addicted folks with homeless families. Should be great for those kids.

Tommy Wells lied to the community when he said 3 years ago that there would be no more homeless people living at Reservation 13, and that the Hypothermia Shelter would be permanently closed on April 1, 2008 and NEVER re-open.

He moved the meeting date about Res 13 from before the election, to after the election. How very convenient so he could hide from the controversy. And why won’t Wells comment on the secret meetings that HE held on Res 13?

Did he shelve the plans for development of Res 13, so it will remain the cesspool of city services that no other ward wants to host?

Why won’t Wells stand up for the Ward he was elected to represent? Did nothing on the School Board and now nothing for the people he represents. Four more years of this crap?

Well, Speak Out, you can go to Payne tonight at 6 and ask him personally!
