Live in Southeast? Rake those leaves by Sunday!

uploaded to Flickr by Greencolander

Now that the leaves are good and drippy, it’s time to think about raking. Yes, it’s that time of year when DCPW collects leaves all over the city. Call me crazy, but I’m tickled pink when I see the DCPW guys and gals at work on my street. It means there’s a whole lot less “leaf litter” (yes, that’s straight out of my 9th grade biology class) for me to trudge in the house.

Well, the folks in Northeast should have gotten their act together a couple of weeks ago, but for residents on the south side of East Capitol, leaves will be bagged next week, so fill up those tree boxes by Sunday night.

Since there are still quite a few of those yellow, red and orange buggers on the trees, you should probably put the following dates on the calendar — because the raking fun has just begun. The December date for northeast leaf collection is December 5; southeastern leaves should be in tree boxes by December 19.

Happy raking!
