Help Spread Thanksgiving Cheer

Help out a local family this Thanksgiving by participating in the Thanksgiving basket drive for homeless and low income families sponsored by Capitol Hill Group Ministry .  An annual tradition for CHGM, the basket drive is a simple way to help other families “enjoy a bountiful harvest at Thanksgiving.”

How can you help?  Putting together a basket is easy — CHGM offers suggestions on their website. The list includes things like boxes of mac ‘n cheese and stuffing, a few commonly used fresh vegetables like onions and sweet potatoes (that don’t spoil very quickly), a box cake and frosting and a $20 grocery store gift card so the family can buy their meat of choice.

All you need to do to participate is, between now and November 19th, contact Valerie McCray at 202-544-0631 or by email at office [at] chgm [dot] net with the number of baskets you will provide. Then purchase the items for your baskets – the list on the website is only a suggestion so you can customize as you wish, as long as its an equivalent amount of food.  Drop your basket off by November 21st at one of two locations:

  • Shirley’s Place Day Hospitality Center, 1338 G Street, SE (7 days per week, 9am – 5pm), or;
  • CHGM Main Office, 421 Seward Square, SE (Mon – Fri, 10am – 2pm)
