To Do List

This weekend is the perfect weekend to be in the District. The weather promises to be seasonal (read: not hot and humid, but not terribly cold either), there are plenty of Halloween-themed activities to keep us all busy, and some guy named Jon Stewart is meeting with a few thousand of his closest friends to talk about this fun little concept, um, I think it’s called sanity?

So whether you want to embrace your inner Gleek and spend the weekend dressed as Rachel playing Janet, or if you simply want to laugh out loud, do we have a list for you.

Halloween Activities
If spooky scary dancers, costumed pets, or begging for free candy are your thing, then Claudia’s guide to Halloween on the Hill has everything you need to know about this weekend, from recreating Michael Jackson’s Thriller on H Street NE to Haunted Hill tours (for kids and adults!) and costume contests (for pets!).

Funny People on the Hill
While The Hill is Home To Do List regularly focuses on the area East of the Capitol, I think this week we can make an exception and see what the west side of the Hill has to offer. Fake news man and all around sane guy Jon Stewart is bringing his cast of characters correspondents to the National Mall for the Rally to Restore Sanity (and/or Fear). You’d be silly to miss it, so head to the mall between 4th and 7th Streets NW between 12 and 3pm.

Do you know someone coming to town for the rally? Then be sure they check out DC Like a Local’s guide to the Hill.

Don’t let Jon Stewart’s call to sanity discourage you from laughing at the Tea Party’s expense. The Atlas Performing Arts Center presents Gross National Product: Don’t Tea on Me—a parody of the Mid Term elections that highlights the lowlifes and multiple issues, including Tea Party politics.

Some other Cool Stuff (that is entertaining and may or may not require costumes)
While you can see the Washington Savoyards in Pirates of Penzance now through Nov. 7 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, this Saturday the group will be performing at Eastern Market. Stop by the market on Oct. 30 between 10:30 and 11:30am where you can, for free, see cast members in full costume perform signature pieces from the production. The audience will also have the opportunity to interact with the cast members during certain scenes.

The Fridge (516 8th St. SE) hosts the work of Graham Boyle through Nov. 14.

Hannah Spiro performs at The Corner Store (900 South Carolina Ave. SE) on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 8pm. Tickets are $10
