Things We Take for Granted: The Hot Dog man at Union Meat Company

The hot dog man — he is the best thing you don’t know about at Eastern Market! While others are lining up at Market Lunch, you’ll find me at the south side of the Union Meat Company counter, where I can get an all beef hot dog, soda and chips for a steal — $2.50 (the special combo price)!

It’s a rare thing to find cheap eats on the Hill, and the hot dog man, sometimes an older man other times a younger fellow, delivers. The price for a hot dog starts at $1.15 and can cost up to $2.25 depending on the meat that makes up your dog. If you’d like a half smoke or a Kielbasa, you’ll need $2. Add chips, soda or water for an additional $.75 a piece.

So whether you are a hot dog purist who eats only all beef hot dogs or if your hot dog tastes trend toward the more exotic Buffalo/Bison hot dog, the hot dog man has just what you need, and for cheap!
