It seems that fall is made for festivals and yard sales, so whether you want to celebrate fall at a local festival or search for hidden treasure at a yard sale, the Hill has something for you this weekend! (Don’t worry, we included a few scandalous/drinking-friendly suggestions as well.)

Friday, October 22
Every Friday the Rock & Roll Hotel hosts the Rock and Roll Spelling Buzz. If you have to drink to play and spell to win then that must means every PBR gets you that much closer to being the winner you know you are! Stop by the hotel to, drink, spell, and then listen to some live music. BECKY, with Djs Stereo Faith and Trevor Martin, is playing the Hotel Bar at 9:30pm.

Taffety Punk Theater Company presents Riot Grrrls: Julius Caesar at CHAW. Final performances are this weekend! Tickets are $10 and are available online at http://www.taffetypunk.com/shows.html.

Saturday, October 23
Watch the popular children’s book Zoolidays come to life when the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop hosts The Blue Moose Show as part of the Kids Euro Festival. Children and grown-ups will learn the art of illustration in a step-by-step, hands-on way that’s fun for the whole family. The event, which is free, is best for students ages 5-10 years. Showtimes: 10:00-11:00 a.m. and 12:00 -1:00 p.m. in the Black Box Theater.

Join the Brent Elementary School community at their Book & Bake sale, and Fall Festival, which promises to be fun for the whole family. The Brent Book & Bake Sale begins at 9am. The Fall Festival Begins at 11am and runs through 2:30pm. Tickets are $5 per person or$25 max per family.

Brent is still collecting used books for the Book Sale. All books are welcome, however, please consider donating books for grown-ups, as they are in short supply. Donations can be left at 217 17th St. NE or 9 5th St. SE through Friday and brought directly to Brent Saturday.

Maury Elementary School is also hosting a Fall Festival, complete with fun for kids and a dunk tank for adults. Come out and dunk your favorite, or least favorite, ANC commissioner, teacher, ANC candidate or The Hill is Home blogger.

As you make your way to Eastern Market, be sure to stop by the River Park Nursery School Fall Yard Sale from 8:30 am-1pm, in front of the Rumsey Aquatic Center. Proceeds benefit the River Park Nursery School.

Sunday, October 24
If you didn’t find enough to take home on Saturday, make your way to the Ludlow-Taylor Community Yard Sale at 7 and G Streets NE from 8:30 am-12pm.

Once you’ve enjoyed a morning of shopping, settle into to an afternoon of football when the Washington Redskins take on the Chicago Bears. Whether you wear a pig nose to FedEx Field or you cheer on Da Bears from Union Pub, it’s never a bad idea to watch the week’s games in the company of strangers.

Finally, The Hill is Home’s very own funny guys are offering another round of Walking Shtick Tours–and they are doubling down on Halloween this weekend with Haunted Hill tours both Friday and Saturday night at 7 pm. If ghosts aren’t your thing, their Scandal Tour will be done in the harsh light of day at 3 pm on Sunday. You can take a chance and just show up at Eastern Market Metro, but to be sure you get a space on the tour, contact reservations@walkingshtick.com.

If you’re coming out to Maury Fall Fest, come by the dunk tank from 11-11:15 to dunk this THIH editor and ANC 6A05 candidate! I’ll match every dollar raised while I’m in the tank, whether you put me in the drink or not.
