Meet the Candidates: Tony Richardson ANC 6C05

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

Tony Richardson ANC 6C05

Since I have been your ANC Commissioner, our streets and neighborhoods are cleaner and safer. When we’ve spoken over the past two years, whether on the street, in backyards or on front porches or at our local businesses, you tell me about this progress and express your thanks.  For that, I say you’re welcome and Thank You

My efforts on behalf of our Single Member District have been ongoing.

In crime prevention, I have taken my law enforcement background and partnered with MPD and Federal authorities in identifying high crime areas and working collaboratively to make our streets, alleys and thoroughfares safer

I have collaborated with NOMA Bid and other developers for growing businesses in our community. I have also collaborated with the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District, DC DPW and the H Street Clean and Safe program in obtaining agreements for consistent and regularly street cleaning for our ANC.

My name is Tony Richardson.  I have worked diligently for you.  But, our work is not done.  On November 2nd, please cast your vote to continue what we’ve already begun.  Cast a vote for experience, progress and growth. Cast your vote for continued success.

My commitment as your ANC 6C05 Single Member District Commissioner has only grown since first being elected 2 years ago. I have spent countless hours tending to ANC business for the betterment of our community. That commitment is unmatched. I attend and participate in a minimum of three different community meetings each and every month. In addition, I regularly testify at public hearings. In the six years that I have been a part of this community my opponents have not attended any ANC or community meeting nor have they worked on any community matters. Their commitment should be seriously questioned. I continue to work hard for what is right for all of us. My enthusiasm and frontline leadership is a true testament to my commitment to our community. We have made great strides in the past two years I do this because I truly care. Not because I’m bored or want to play politics.

This is one of the weirdest statements you’ve posted. He writes poorly, boasts mightily, but doesn’t cite any accomplishments, and takes shots at others who want to get involved. I haven’t met him, but I’d be less inclined to vote for him after reading this than I was based on what I’d heard of him previously. One particular gripe — his only specific claim takes credit for strete cleaning through the H Street Clean and Safe program, which is defunct. H Street Main Street was supposed to be responsible for it, but their incompetent leadership allowed this poorly managed program to lapse. You would think the ANC who represents the area would have noticed or would have spoken up or might at least have removed it from his accomplishments in his campaign statement.

Agree completely with Neighbor about this odd statement. Who is Tony Richardson anyway? None of the businesses on H seem to know him. I tried googling but his ANC6c05 blog is open “to invited readers only.” https://www.blogger.com/blogin.g?blogspotURL=http%3A%2F%2Fanc6c05.blogspot.com%2F Nice transparency.

Also agree that it’s strange that he should take credit for the Clean and Safe program which lapsed some time ago. Have you seen what a mess H Street is? The men from the homeless shelter who were employed through this potentially excellent program have been out of work for over a month
H Street Main Street is responsible and they have not done what needs to be done to keep the program active and well managed. Richardson is on the board of HSMS although you’d never know it since they don’t publish a list of board members. Again, nice transparency.

Considering that this SMD represents both sides of H Street from 8th to the Hopscotch Bridge, ask yourself where the positive change is happening before you vote. Can’t we do better than this?

It’s apparent that the previous comments are from his opponents. I’ve lived here long enough to have seen many ANC Commissioners come and go. Tony is the most active Commissioner this neighborhood has ever had. I see him regularly at the PSA 102 meetings, and he actually fights to get this neighborhood more police presence. I’ve witnessed him on the streets working with MPD. I’ve seen him testify in front of DC council. I’ve seen him in several of the businesses in this neighborhood. I’ve been a member of this neighborhood for a long time and I’ve never seen Cox or Zatakoski at any community meetings or at any neighborhood crime walks or seen them participating in neighborhood clean-ups.

Before submitting my comment, I checked with H St. Main St and I was informed that the Clean and Safe program has been funded. I also checked on a statement that Cox made. Tony is correct the ANC cannot invest ANC money. In fact, the DC auditor to me that ANC 6C is one the most fiscally responsible ANC’s in the entire city. I also contacted chairwomen Wirt from ANC 6C and she stated that Tony does an awesome job as Treasurer and the ANC awards grant money based on D.C. rules and regulations.
It’s amazing that Cox would make such false statements and put the whole ANC out there like that. Wow….. This shows what kind of person he is. I attend ANC meetings and Tony is quite knowledgeable and the consummate professional. I despise the hate on these blogs it’s easy for people sit in front of their computer and write comments when they haven’t done anything for this community.

I voted for Tony each time he ran for ANC Commissioner and we should thank him for working hard for us. I could never vote for anyone who hasn’t contributed anything in this neighborhood. Tony is right they could never match his commitment.

GOOD WORK TONY!!!! Where were these people when the hard work had to be done?

You stood up to the Thug businesses on H St. and the Prostitutes on K Street and the muggers on G St.

    Honestly, where were they?

I sent both of them an e-mail asking to list what they have done for this community and why should I vote for them. I’m still waiting for that list of accomplishments. I don’t need promises.

I can’t believe that guy put the late Ted Kennedy on his handbill. That is sad… What was he thinking..

I read her literature – My God she has absolutely nothing to offer. Will she stand up for us ? or will she run and hide at the first sign of trouble..

I’m interested on your thoughts about the reopening of the Logan School.
