Meet the Candidates: Angelia Rice ANC 6A01

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

Angelia Rice ANC 6A01

I am running for 6A-01 ANC Commissioner as a member of the Democratic Party.  I believe that our community is an excellent example of the American dream.  Our community is diverse, educated and ready to set the pace for all of DC residents.

My campaign is simply this “Building a community that everyone would be proud to call HOME”!

Help to keep our neighborhood safe and clean,

Optimize community communications (keeping you in the KNOW),

Maintain a partnership with city council to ensure our concerns are addressed,

Establish educational excellence (Good Schools) in our neighborhoods.

I decided to run for the 6A-1 ANC Commissioner, to facilitate change in our community.  During the past 3 years the H Street corridor has seen many improvements.  However, I have been the victim of car thief and several of my neighbors have experience break-ins and other crimes.  Helping to keep our community safe is my first priority.  Secondly I would like to improve communications by keeping my community “In the Know”.  I have learned more in these past few weeks going door to door than all of the blogs put together.  An informed community is a powerful community.  Thirdly I will maintain a partnership with city council to ensure that our concerns are heard and addressed.  Finally, I am advocate of good education.  I will support our schools to ensure our children are the leaders of tomorrow.

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS: I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Eastmoor High School. I moved to the DC Metro area in 1988. I earned a BA, in Computer Information Systems Management from Potomac College in Washington, DC. I am the Co-founder of “Homework Haven” an afterschool program dedicated to providing elementary children that would otherwise be “latch key” kids, a safe place to do homework and get tutoring at Greencastle Elementary School.  I am the President of the Potomac College Alumni Association and an Associate Member of Montgomery County Jack and Jill of America.  I am married and have two children.

    What’s this “Democratic Party” stuff?
Doesn’t she know that ANC is non-partisan? There’s enough discord out there without dragging party affiliation into a very effective organization.
