Yard Sale Open Thread

Our yearly yard sale could rival any family holiday for is traditions.  We do it with our neighbors, but its such a reliable occurrence that other friends from nearby will join in.  As soon as the first warm and sunny days appear at the end of March we start talking about dates.  By the time crocuses are here, we are in serious cleaning out mode.  Then our things sprout up on the sidewalk like daffodils.  When the day comes, we start setting up at 7 or 8AM and, once our lovely sidewalk displays are finished, that’s the cue for somebody to go to Bagels & Baguettes to pick up breakfast.  Then its a morning full of selling and bargaining.

The most important tradition, though, is one articulated by my next door neighbor:  nothing that goes out the door will come back in.   When its time to call it quits, we load everything up and take it to Salvation Army.  That used to mean dropping it off a few blocks away on H Street, NE, however take note:  that location is no longer accepting more than a few bags or boxes of items per person.  If you have more to donate, you need only drive a few minutes further to 4825 Edmonston Road in Hyattsville, MD where a team of friendly folks is there to help you unload.  Then its an easy drive back to H Street for lunch, which you can pay for with all that loot you just earned.

If you’re having a yard sale, tell us all about it in the Comments!
