Washington City Paper Confirms Yes! Looking to Move

We reported on the rumors last fall, as rumbling suggested that the Gary Cha, owner of Yes! Organic Market, was looking to move the store from its location on the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.

Washington City Paper’s The Housing Complex confirmed what Yes! fans have suspected and feared for some time: Yes! has out grown its current location and expanding into neighboring storefronts does not look promising.  Stanton Development, owners of the building where Yes! currently serves the community, say that they want Yes! to stay.  But with few options to grow within their current space, Cha seems more serious about searching for a new location.

Cha is reportedly looking to stay in the neighborhood, and is looking as far as H Street for new locations.  The City Paper reports that he has been interested in the new development at the Hine School, but as we all know, it will be several years before that project is ready for its new tenants.

    This would be a real loss for the neighborhood.

    This makes me so sad. For years, I have been able to do nearly all of my shopping at Eastern Market on Saturday mornings by getting my produce from my favorite farm stands and my other groceries from Yes!. We only go to the big grocery every few months for certain pantry items or for parties. This is a huge loss for the Eastern Market neighborhood.

    Sorry to hear this, although if H is the destination, this is actually positive for those of us living north of East Captiol or Mass Ave.

    Believe it or not many people do live near H Street and would welcome Yes with open arms and wallets.

    The Hill is big enough to broaden its EM centric tendency.

    Oh, this would be a dream come true! I’d love a small market closer to home here on H Street. Yeah, Safeway is close, but I would love something small, but not too small, to run to on H Street when pickings are slim.

    Hopefully the power is back up when they are ready to move. :) Look at me implying its a done deal. Do they need me to box up groceries and set up the new store, cause I will!
