District police arrested an adult male in the homicide stabbing of Theresa Hungerford, 45, who was killed Monday night in an apartment in the 1600 block of E Street NE. The arrested male lives in the 1200 block of D Street NE, police announced. This case was investigated and brought to closure by Detective Anthony Patterson and Det. Sean Caine of the Homicide Branch, stated Commander David K. Kamperin. The victim knew the person charged, Kamperin told THIH.
This violent murder was one of three that occurred in the District on Monday. The other two occurred earlier in the day in parts of Northwest.
Monday brings the year-to-date total of murders in the District to 69, still down from this time last year by about 16%. There have been six homicides over the past year in the MPD-1D district, down from 14 murders in the previous year-over-year period. However, sex abuse, robbery with a gun and burglaries are up over the past year, while crime is down in other categories.
