Hill Buzz

I’m not sure 90 degrees ever felt as refreshing as it has the last two days.  Aside from the break from the heat, I couldn’t be more thankful that my power has stayed strong through the heat waves and crazy storms…and that the tree that fell on my block missed my car.

The summer is more than half over, but we’re reaching the best time of year in this town — when Congress is in recess and the city empties out.  You can find parking downtown, drive anywhere with no traffic, even get reservations at your favorite restaurants (with the exception of that one pesky Restaurant Week).  It’s wonderful!  We’ll do our best to keep up regular posts as we all take vacations and enjoy the rest of the summer.  And as long as our other local blogs and papers keep covering our neighborhood I’ll keep passing along the best links for your Tuesday mornings.

  • The Washington Business Journal reported that DDOT issued a Request for Qualifications Friday for the contractor that will design and build the H Street/Benning Road streetcar line.
  • We Love DC gave the details of a food and beer pairing that will be held tonight at Little Miss Whiskey’s, which has teamed up with Liberty Tree to create the menu.  My mouth is already watering…
  • JDLand and DCist covered DDOT’s plans to move to 55 M Street, and Marion Barry’s efforts to delay it from happening.
  • DCist caught a spelling error on a parking sign by the Blue Castle.  After seeing this one today too, it’s pretty clear the city needs a few good copy editors… (h/t @dmfarley)
  • Prince of Petworth‘s readers finally agreed on something — Horace and Dicky’s has some of the best fried fish around.  Well, most of them agreed.  He always has a few people who can’t resist that annoying “meh” response.
  • City Paper’s Young & Hungry reviewed Liberty Tree and checked in on Zest’s summer menu, created by a chef that they recruited from the Fannie Mae fallout.
  • City Paper’s Housing Complex reported on the Zoning Board’s approval of the H Street Connection PUD.
  • Tom Sietsema is clearly a huge fan on Seventh Hill, calling pizzaiolo Anthony a “rising star.”
