H Street Shuttle Adds New Stop on Bladensburg Road

The popular H Street Shuttle, which brings  patrons from around the Washington area to H Street NE, is adding another stop on Bladensburg Road beginning tonight. The stop will connect the new businesses on Bladensburg to the Atlas District. Businesses like Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club and the Capital City Diner are not all that far from H Street but they are not immediately visible and therefore those business don’t benefit from the H Street foot traffic and buzz. Adding the stop links the Bladensburg area with H.

Bladensburg Road was recently named a “Great Street” by the Council and recently underwent a streetscape renovation similar to the one H Street is suffering from, experiencing now.

The shuttle runs nightly from 5pm until the Metro closes and travels a route along H between the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro stop and the Minnesota Avenue Stop across the Anacostia River in Ward 7.  The shuttle brings patrons to and from the developing area for dining, music, theatre, dance and other entertainment activities. The shuttle was put in place before the streetscape project on H Street NE in order to keep patrons coming to the area despite the difficulty navigating the construction and the loss of parking spaces. The shuttle will run until the streetcar begins rolling down H which could be as early as 2012.
