Originally Uploaded to flickr by rKistian

The District Department of Transportation announced its proposed bike share locations, and those of us here on the Hill will be pleased to see that there are quite a few convenient locations in our neck of the woods.

The folks on Barracks Row got their wish — 8th and I Streets SE is on the list. In addition, there are proposed share locations as far east as 19th and East Capitol Street SE.  There are also locations at:

Eastern Market Metro
Potomac Avenue Metro
Union Station Metro
Safeway at Kentucky, D and 14th Streets SE
12 and Independence SE
Lincoln Park at 11th Street
7th and C Streets SE
4th and East Capitol Streets SE
3rd and D Streets SE
4th and H Streets NE
11th and H Streets NE

This would be amazing to be able to use these between my place and H street bars. It’s not a super safe walk for me to do alone at night. This will definitely increase my patronage for later evening visits!

12 and Independence SE, Really? Where? And Why (especially if they put one at 11th and Lincoln Park which is not that far)?

  3. ET – it was on the earlier version of the map, which has now been changed. It’s no longer included. Sorry about that. I’m going to edit the post now. Thanks!

Won’t they get stolen? How does it work? do you get a lock code?

  5. mappo says:

I believe the racks are self-locking, like the current system. If you want to park it somewhere other than one of the Bikeshare racks you’ll need your own lock.

FYI — the 12th and Independence site is actually in SW by the USDA building.
