The To Do List

It’s Memorial Day weekend, most of us have three days to observe the beginning of  summer. It looks like the weather will be favorable.  But if your dance card is short a few cook outs this weekend here are some suggestions to get you started.

Friday May 28th the H Street Country Club will be celebrating it’s one-year anniversary. The club will be offering food discounts and happy hour prices all night so those tasty margaritas will only set you back $5. The club is donating %10 of all proceeds tomorrow night to the National Wildlife Fund to be directed toward oil spill clean-up efforts in the Gulf.

Friday CHAMPS and the Capitol Hill BID will celebrate the end of Capitol Hill Month at Lounge 201. Councilmember Tommy Wells, fresh off his last minute rescue of the Streetcar system, will present the DC Council passed resolution which declares that the month of May belongs to our fair neighborhood. $5 admission at the door gets you free appetizers and drink specials.

Saturday the hippest of all hipster hosts Brightest Young Things will host CAMP CAMP at the Capitol Skyline Hotel Pool. It’s your chance to be tacky poolside. The BYTs have thoughtfully given some examples of what they mean by tacky. They also suggest you bring lawn ornaments. $15 gets you a bracelet which will entitle you to drink specials from 12pm to 8pm. If you go PLEASE take pictures.

If high camp isn’t your thing but you must celebrate Memorial Day eating burgers in your swimsuit, chef Spike Mendelsohn will be back on Sunday grilling burgers poolside for his regular Sunday gig.

Saturday evening The In Series will be back at the Atlas Performing Arts Center with a new production called Swingtime: The Fabulous Forties, a musical revue set in the 1940s.

Sunday there will be more music at Eastern Market to entertain as you shop for your picnic supplies. The morning act will be Patty Reese and Dave Chappell playing some of their contemporary acoustic while the afternoon will feature the Honky Tonk Confidential doing their Retro Country thing.

So, what are your plans for this three day weekend?
