Hill Buzz

It’s a big week here at The Hill is Home!  We’re only a few days away from our one-year anniversary, and couldn’t be more excited about how far we’ve come since our first post last spring.  We’ll share some of our proud achievements with you in a post later this week, but until then, thank you for reading.  And now it’s time again to pour yourself a second cup of coffee and catch up on some reading…

  • People are still buzzing about Ted’s Bulletin!  Katie, from We Love DC, interviewed the owners about why they love DC and Capitol Hill so much.  And City Paper’s Young & Hungry stopped by for a milkshake and to take some pictures.
  • Prince of Petworth announced that Taylor’s H Street location will start staying open until 2:30 am every Thursday in addition to the normal late night hours Friday and Saturday until 330 am.
  • Speaking of food, CNN did a great video feature on Curbside Cupcake.
  • According to someone on Overheard in DC on DCist,  the neighborhood reminds them of Hoboken…
  • I didn’t realize this but the first time a house on the Hill sold for over $1 million was in 2000.  A little more background can be read on Prince of Petworth.
  • Live in Hill East? An Urban Turf reader is thinking about buying there and wants to know what other Urban Turf readers think of the area.

I did an expat year in Hoboken in 2004…there are some similarities. It’s a great walking town. And Hoboken has much better food. Four bakeries on the main street. The Delis. The pizza.
But it’s crazy expensive. Had we sold our rowhouse near H ST NE we could have maaaybe purchased a 2 bedroom condo.
Ultimately we came back here and one major reason was the Hill community.
I initially chose Hoboken thinking it’s so close to the city, it’ll be like Brooklyn…no. It felt more Jersey meets Desperate Housewives to me.
