Hill Theaters Honored

Capitol Hill will be well-represented at this year’s Helen Hayes Awards. Folger Theater’s production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia received eight nods, including Outstanding Resident Play, Outstanding Leading Actress for Holly Twyford, Outstanding Director for Aaron Posner (both are also part of Folger’s Orestes – A Tragic Romp), Outstanding Supporting Actor for Eric Hissom and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Erin Weaver.  Naomi Jacobson was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in A Winter’s Tale.  Theater Alliance, the theater-in-residence at the H Street Playhouse, was nominated for The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical for The Bread of Winter.

Folger had previously received 48 Hayes Award nominations, winning 12 for productions such as Measure for Measure, which won Outstanding Resident Play in 2007, and The Two Gentlemen of Verona, which earned Aaron Posner the award for Outstanding Director, Resident Play in 2005.  Theater Alliance has previously received 21 nominations.

Since 1983, the Helen Hayes Awards have recognized excellence in professional theater in the metro area.  This year’s awards ceremony will be Monday, April 5th, at the Warner Theater.
