FedEx Delivers Illegal Narcotics to Hill Home

Uploaded to flickr by Chris Campbell.

Melanie Sloan wasn’t expecting a delivery when she heard her doorbell ring shortly after 6pm Monday evening. Waiting on her doorstep was a package delivered by FedEx; the FedEx driver left the package on her doorstep and drove away before Sloan could reach her door.

Although the address on the package was correct, Sloan didn’t recognize the name of the designated recipient, and a quick internet search yielded little information about the name on the package. Sloan also did not recognize the address from which the package came—a shipping center in Anaheim, CA—but her husband decided to open the package anyway.

Sloan suspected something more sinister lurked inside the box when, between layers of ceiling insulation and plastic wrap, they noticed coffee grounds. “Once we got to the coffee grounds, I knew what [was in the package],” said Sloan. “Coffee grounds are commonly used to mask the scent of drugs.”

The couple’s assumption was correct. The package contained at least 10 kilos of marijuana.

“We immediately called the police, who came and seized the package.”

Because this is an ongoing investigation, Commander David Kamperin of the Metropolitan Police Department could not reveal additional details, but asked residents who receive packages that they are not expecting or are addressed to a person not residing at the home to not open the packages. “Suspicious packages, leaking packages, stained packages, or packages with no return address or only a partial return address should be treated as suspicious packages. If delivered by the US Post Office, call the US Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455. If the package is delivered by a private delivery service—UPS or FedEx, for example—homeowners should either refuse delivery of the package or, if they receive it, call 911.”

Sounds like she is in on it and got nervous and called police to deflect blame. Authorities should send her to the DC jail with no bond; definitely grounds to search her business and question all her colleagues. She is probably a white collar criminal who has made nefarious contacts over the years.

Wasn’t that some of the back story on that mayor in Maryland?

  3. Cannabis says:

    Marijuana is not a narcotic.

I do not think she was in on it, but this is very interesting. Indeed.

maybe she’s trying to set up the first Medical Marijuana dispensary in DC, and just got her first shipment a little too early

I agree with H Street Resident!

I’m not saying this should be enforced, but isn’t it a federal offense to open a package not addressed to you. maybe there is an exception if it is addressed to a home you own I don’t know, just curious.

Isn’t the real victim here the person who never got his/her package?? I joke, but seriously, 10 kilos of pot is like 22 pounds, that had to have been a BIG BOX.

She is not in on it. When my credit card number was stolen, this is exactly what they used it for: opening a fake corporate FedEx account in my name and then shipping 30+ packages, all no signature required. The local drug runner/mule picks up the package from the doorstep of the homeowner who is not supposed to be home. She, however, was home and received the package.

Bebe. You just explained why I had a FedEx account opened with my credit card a month ago. There had been no charges either. I cancelled both accounts immediately, but I was perplexed–until now. Thanks!
