December has begun with the usual rash of auto thefts and shoplifting in MPD-1; and sadly, teen violence seems to be continuing on Capitol Hill. On Tuesday, a group of about six teens, suspected to be students, assaulted a man at 6th and G Streets, NE, and knocking him to the ground in an attempt to rummage through his pockets, according to police. The attack happened at 3:08PM. DCPS officially lets out at 3:15PM.
“We’re looking to determine if this group may be involved in other similar offenses in this area,” Commander Kamperin stated in an email to The Hill is Home which was posted on the MPD-1 listserv.
“The complainant reports he was walking in the block when approached by several subjects– believed to be all juveniles. One of the suspects struck the victim, who fell to the ground. While attempting to take property out of his pockets, a car came into the block and the suspects fled,” Kamperin related.
A short time later, there appeared to be a separate incident also involving assault with intent to rob on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of E Street, NE . There were no details provided on the suspect or suspects.
Anyone who witnessed these crimes or has additional information is encouraged to call the tip line, 888-919-CRIME, or text 50-411.
