Woman Shot on H Street NE

This afternoon, just before 1pm a woman was shot in the leg in front of 1375 H Street NE.  DCist reports the woman’s wounds are serious but not life-threatening.

The gunman, who was in a wheelchair at the time of the shooting, is still at large.

While all shootings are terrifying and disturbing, this one occurred in broad daylight amidst much activity. I was leaving the Atlas Performing Arts Center at 1333 H St. NE, heading down to a meeting at SOVA moments after it happened. There were already two police officers with the victim and the ambulance arrived just as I got to the coffee shop.

At that time we still didn’t know what had happened, all I saw was a woman crying but then as I got closer I saw blood. We later learned that she had in fact been shot but no one I spoke with either at Atlas or SOVA mentioned hearing anything like a gunshot. We were not allowed to leave the building until the crime scene was cleared.

The Post is reporting that the police are looking for a armed suspect who rolled away, but the article also says she was shot in the foot in the 1200 block, so it seems that details are still emerging.
