If there’s a problem with my weekly columns, it is that they are too dry. Not, I hope, lacking in interest, but simply not enough beer. If you enjoy your history with alcoholic beverages, the US Capitol Historical Society has you covered: On October 22, they will be presenting their Watering Holes of Washington: Capitol Hill History Pub Tour (Senate Side). Famous guide Steven Livengood will be touring the area north of the Capitol, including numerous pubs, and will give his unique perspective on this area of Capitol Hill.
All details over the jump.
On October 22, from 6 – 8:30 PM, the Capitol Historical Society will be touring through the pubs of the Senate side of the Capitol. The tour will be led by Steve Livengood, who is known for his detailed tours of the Capitol. On this evening, however, he will be focusing on the stranger aspects of this august house. He will be telling stories of the politician who had his staff live in a cheap basement hotel room, and will describe what happened to the space in which they once ate their meals. Other stories will relate to now-demolished structures that were replaced with the Department of Labor as well as parking lots.
But the highlight will be the drinks: a “politically correct” martini at The Monocle, as well as beers at The Dubliner and The Capitol City Brewing Company.
All this for $25 for members and $30 for non-members. And that includes three drinks, as well as raffle prizes and all the history you can remember.
