Crowds, Hula Hoops, and a Perfect Kick-off

More than 12,000 people visited Eastern Market Saturday, according to volunteers working the event, partaking in activities from facepainting and hula hoop contests, to dancing,  zydeco and listening to R&B – and of course, shopping. Lots of shopping. Shoppers were out in force both Saturday and Sunday, many using the celebratory bags distributed by Eastern Market Community Advisory Committee. Throughout the day, volunteers gave tours of the historic building, reminding visitors why this storied Washington landmark is part of the cultural and commercial soul of the city.

Thanks went out to all the volunteers, city employees and merchants who helped showcase this great landmark.

Lunch choices abounded, from crepes and bbq, to sorbet and Indian food. And of course there were blue bucks and crabcakes! Photo by Sharee Lawler.
